Youth Groups

Starts Wednesday 8th February 2012

Gemco has three groups running for children in years Prep to 12. All of these groups are taught by volunteer leaders and are very inexpensive to attend at the low cost of $50 per student per term (an average of $5 per session). On top of term fees there is also an annual ten dollar membership fee which entitles you to a copy of Gemco’s email newsletter, covers your child with insurance, and attracts cheaper hire rates. The focus of all the groups is on having a go, making new friends and learning new skills, and having fun doing so!

If you would like to be involved in any of the groups, please come to the first Wednesday session of a new term, from Term 1 to Term 3, to enrol. Term 4 is dedicated to the end of year show, and no new students are taken on at this time. The end of year shows are an excellent way to see the the students demonstrate their skills.

Juniors ( Prep – Grade 4 ) • Leaders: Marg Gemmell and Louise Beare

Junior Gemco is for children from Grades Prep to 4 and is on Wednesday nights from 4pm to 5pm*. Juniors must be signed in and out of each session. The focus of Juniors is to build confidence and social skills, as well as introduce children to some drama skills such as improvisation and mime. Juniors generally have a performance at the end of the semester.

Intermediates ( Grade 5 – Year 7 ) • Leaders: Judy Neilson and Louise Beare

Intermediate Gemco is for children from Grades 5 to Year 7 and is on Wednesday nights from 6:15pm to 7:30pm*. Intermediates focus is similar to Juniors with a greater focus on performing in front of an audience. Intermediates do a variety of styles of performances over the course of the year.

Senior Youth ( Year 8 – Year 12 ) • Leaders: David Greenaway and Evie Housham

The Senior Youth group is for teenagers from Years 8 to 12 and is held Wednesday nights, from 7:45pm to 9:15pm*. Youth participate in a variety of performance styles throughout the year and participate in a lot of improvisational activities. They are also given chances to take part in the offstage aspects of theatre such as lighting, costumes, directing and stage management.

*Please note drop off and pick up times, as leaders are often not able to be at the venue more than 5 minutes early than the start time, or 5 minutes after the finish time.
